"It's not the satellites, but us that are chasing that beam of light." This is the story of a group of academic masters. The members of the Tiange Project team of the School of Physics of Sichuan University gathered together because of the same passion to develop their own satellites.

Today, 7 of the 10 senior members of the Tiange team have successfully completed their graduate studies. 5 of them will go to Tsinghua University and Peking University to continue their studies, and two of them will continue their studies at Sichuan University.

The Sichuan University Tiange Project team is studying gravitational waves and other "black technologies" at school

The Gamma Ray Integrated Detectors (GRID), the space-based distributed gravitational wave burst electromagnetic counterpart detection network, is an innovative scientific research project for undergraduates initiated by Tsinghua University in October 2016. Currently, it has included Sichuan University, More than 20 universities and research institutes including Nanjing University and Beijing Normal University have participated, and the Tiange Alliance has initially formed.

The alliance takes college students as the backbone and takes gamma-ray bursts, magnetars and other gravitational wave electromagnetic counterparts in the universe as the main research objects to carry out the design, development, networking and related research of the cubic star gamma-ray space detection network Astrophysics scientific research.

The Sichuan University Tiange Project Team (SCUGRID) is one of the members of the Tiange Alliance. It is currently under the guidance of Professor Zhou Rong, Wang Zhonghai, Kang Mingming, and Liu Xuewen from the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Nuclear Technology of the School of Physics. Many graduate students Participate in the collaboration, with the juniors as the main body and the juniors as the reserve force, and conduct group scientific research activities in the form of small groups of labor cooperation.

Since its establishment, the Sichuan University Tiange team has iterated four batches of members, and has completed 4 national-level large-scale innovations, 14 provincial-level large-scale innovations, and 11 school-level large-scale innovations.

  Also lost in the future

Walk with your teammates and gradually find your goal

The 305 laboratory of the Second Science Building of Sichuan University gathers members of Sichuan University Tiange.

In September 2018, Yang Jingru, who had just entered university, learned about the Tiange Project at the Daiso Experience Exchange Meeting of the School of Physics.

"Launch a satellite of my own in the vast universe. I thought it was a very romantic thing at the time, but I was also full of doubts. Is this something I can do? So with a sense of anxiety, editor The registration email was until midnight. When I received the reply "Welcome to the Tiange Team", my heart jumped suddenly, and my excitement and joy couldn't calm down for a long time." Yang Jingru recalled with a smile.

Team leader Yang Haoyan broke through his own bottleneck in the two years of the Tiange team: “I was very confused in my sophomore year and didn’t know what to do now and in the future. However, as my junior year and team members participated in the scientific research work more and more I have gradually found my direction and achieved many results. I am very grateful to the team members who continuously guided and supported me during my period of confusion. A good team atmosphere and common goals are really important!"

"When the junior year was busiest, we left the laboratory for the first time in the early morning because of the experiment. We walked out the door, quietly outside, chatting with our friends on the road, and found that each other was actually at the same level of confusion. Someone joked. Frustrated, but in the end they cheered each other up. I was very lucky to have such an experience." Yang Jingru recalled.

Cross the river by feeling the stones

After a lot of failures, I found the way

When it comes to experimental normality, the team members are very touched.

"Experiment, do it for a day, one does not pay attention, the whole day's hard work is in vain; when it comes to radioactive sources, students must be guarded at all times. All students must be able to operate and be able to discover the experiment. Some anomalies, preparations before the experiment, including the experimental schedule, the experimental process, the details to be paid attention to during the experiment, it takes up to 1 hour to calculate the odds and ends. For some experiments with more demanding conditions, such as doing corners When responding to the experiment, it is necessary to ensure that the temperature of the components of the detector is approximately constant, and the ambient temperature is also required to be approximately constant. This requires time to keep up with temperature changes. If you dare not blink, you won't be able to doze off." He Ying said with emotion.

"I remember when I first received a job that no one had done in the laboratory. It was just crossing the river by feeling the stones. It really felt like opening up wasteland." Yang Jingru said, "We found a lot of information and did a lot of simulations. , I also experienced a lot of failures, and finally found a clear path slowly. As the saying goes, true knowledge comes from practice, and you have to try courageously when encountering difficulties, and you can’t give up easily."

Today, 7 of the 10 senior members of the Tiange team have successfully completed their graduate studies. 5 of them will go to Tsinghua University and Peking University to continue their studies, and two of them will continue their studies at Sichuan University.
