Before Christmas, the aquarium in Toba City, Mie Prefecture, displays a Christmas tree that is lit by electricity produced by electrophorus electricus.

This exhibition is held every year by the Toba Aquarium at the time of Christmas so that people can enjoy the strength of electricity generated by the electrophorus electricus that inhabits the Amazon River basin in South America when they catch food.

There are five electrophorus electricus in the aquarium, and when the eels turn on electricity, the LED lights and star decorations on the top of the tree, which is 5 meters high, shine with a thunder-like sound. ..

The visitors enjoyed taking pictures of the Christmas tree, which lights up when the eels were fed by the keeper, with their smartphones.

A visitor said, "I was surprised by the sound. I found it interesting to see an exhibition not found in other aquariums."

Miho Ito, the keeper, said, "I think it's a Christmas tree unique to an aquarium, so please take a picture of the moment when the bait shines beautifully."

The Denki eel Christmas tree will be on display until the 25th of this month, the day of Christmas.
