Sea cucumber fishing in Omura Bay, which is popular as a winter taste in Nagasaki, has entered the season and is being landed.

The ban on sea cucumber fishing will be lifted in November in Nagasaki Prefecture, but the ban date has been delayed because the number of sea cucumbers was small in Omura Bay due to preliminary test operations.

On the 12th, the Matsubara branch of the Omura City Fisheries Cooperative lifted the ban on fishing, and fishing boats departed one after another from early morning.

At offshore fishing grounds, nets for bottoming were introduced, and when pulled up, sea cucumbers of about 10 to 20 cm were contained.

Also, near the coast, fishing was carried out by using scissors attached to the tip of bamboo poles to pick sea cucumbers while looking at the seabed with a tool called "box glasses."

According to Omura City, there was about 23 tons of landing last season, but it is expected that the catch will decrease this season.

Masahiro Miyamura, the head of the Matsubara branch of the Omura City Fisheries Cooperative, said, "I hope that the temperature will drop and the number of sea cucumbers will increase."

Sea cucumber fishing in Omura Bay reaches its peak during the year-end and New Year holidays when demand increases, and is scheduled to continue until late January of the new year.
