A plant similar to bananas that grows in warm regions such as southern China and Southeast Asia, "snow bananas", which are rare in Japan, are in full bloom for the first time at a botanical garden in Toyama City.

At the Botanic Gardens of the Prefecture in Toyama City, we have been cultivating a plant called "Snow Banana" that grows naturally in southern China and Southeast Asia and is close to bananas for three years.

It was about 1 meter high in May, but in September it grew rapidly to 6 meters and began to bloom.

"Snow banana" is characterized by the stem part called flower stalk extending downward, and when you look inside, you can see small flowers, and on the flower stalk there are also banana-like fruits.

This is the first time that it has blossomed in this botanical garden, and it is rare in Japan.

According to the botanical garden, it is difficult to predict when it will be in full bloom, but it means that you can fully enjoy it this month.

Toshiaki Shinai of the Botanic Gardens of Toyama said, "I don't think I have many chances to see it, so please come and experience the size of the whole plant."
