[Explanation] On the eve of the National Memorial Day for the Eighth Nanjing Massacre, Cen Honggui, a Nanjing Massacre survivor, accepted an interview with media reporters and told about his and his family's misfortune during the Nanjing Massacre.

[Explanation] In the past 84 years, the survivors of the Nanjing Massacre are gray-haired old people, reminiscing about the past over and over, and weeping over and over again, but the old people still insist on telling it over and over again.

On December 13, 1937, the Japanese imperialists (the invaders) entered the city from Nanjing Zhongshan Gate, Guanghua Gate, Zhonghua Gate and other places. My family was living outside Hanzhong Gate at that time. Two Japanese soldiers came from the north (at that time). My father held his sister and watched the Japanese soldiers raise a gun to shoot, they squatted down, and the bullet from that shot passed through his chin.

[Commentary] According to Cen Honggui's recollection, the brutal Japanese invaders set fire to houses along the way, and the 3-year-old brother was burned alive.

Cen Honggui's leg was also burned by the fire, leaving scars.

At that time, my 3-year-old brother was sleeping in the house. I saw the Japanese soldiers set on fire with a torch. I was going to take my brother out (escape), but two Japanese soldiers stabbed me with bayonets, and I dared not enter.

My younger brother was only 3 years old and he was burned alive. I heard a few crying and screaming, and he was burned to death. Our people are defenseless.

[Commentary] Cen Honggui said that he often tells his children that national shame cannot be forgotten.

He also hopes that young people will remember the pain of history and cherish peace.

I often tell my sons and daughters, and when you eat, you must remember the history. We must not forget the national humiliation, and it is impossible to forget it in 300 or 500 years.

[Explanation] Up to now, there are only 61 registered survivors of the Nanjing Massacre.
