Imagine living in a house surrounded by 6,000 African works of art!

This was the case with collector Alan Donovan at his African Heritage House in Nairobi, Kenya.

It was in 1970, following a stay in Turkana, a region of northern Kenya, that this American began to hunt for African crafts.

He then met in Nairobi Joseph Murumbi, former vice-president of Kenya, also a fervent art lover.

Together, they founded the African Heritage Gallery, located in the heart of the Kenyan capital, where African artists can then sell their works.

Alan Donovan therefore settled in Kenya, and built his house there.

Inaugurated in 1994, classified as a national monument since 2016, it now houses its collection of works of art, and remains open to visitors despite the death of Alan Donovan a week ago.

Our correspondent in Nairobi, Albane Thirouard, was able to visit it.
