Netflix, Disney +, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video ... These foreign platforms will become contributors to the French audiovisual sector.

They have in fact officially integrated the French system for financing audiovisual and cinematographic productions.

They will therefore have to invest between 250 and 300 million euros per year in French creation.

Video-on-demand platforms will have to invest between 250 and 300 million euros per year in French creation.

This is the agreement concluded for three years between the CSA and Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + and Apple TV.

An amount that corresponds to 20% of their turnover in France.

This "SMAD" decree

(audiovisual media service on demand)

published last June in the Official Journal is the result of negotiations led by the CSA.

According to the newspaper

Le Monde

, the biggest contributor will be Netflix with 200 million euros.

The platform provides for 40 French productions per year, against 27 this year.

A figure that was already increasing.

Next is Amazon Prime Video with 40 million euros - hard traded.

What turnover can we base ourselves on?

The whole difficulty was knowing the turnover of the platform on which to base it.

Because when you take an Amazon Prime subscription, you have access not only to Prime Video but also to Amazon's fast delivery services and to music, video games and digital books.

So how do you determine the share of subscribers who come for the video on demand service?

This is the thorny question that the CSA had to decide with the platform.

And they finally agreed on the figure of 40 million euros per year.

As for Disney + and Apple TV, which recently arrived in France, contributions are much lower, due to their lower turnover.
