Holidays in Morocco are not for now.
The country's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) announced Thursday that "all flights to and from Morocco" were suspended "until December 31 minimum".
Passenger maritime links are also suspended until December 31, according to the economic information site Médias24.
The kingdom's air borders have been closed since November 29 due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 and the resurgence of the pandemic in Europe.
The epidemiological situation has stabilized, however, with low transmission of the virus for five weeks, according to the Ministry of Health.
Possible repatriations
In addition, the government "is studying" the repatriation of Moroccans stranded abroad since the air borders were closed, Health Minister Khalid Aït Taleb said Thursday during a press briefing, without giving more details.
These measures were decided "in order to preserve the achievements of Morocco in the fight against the pandemic" of Covid-19, according to the authorities.
However, tourism professionals are alarmed by the devastating impact of the closing of the borders on this vital sector for the kingdom's economy, already undermined by an unprecedented crisis for almost two years.
