Ramon Muntaner

, director of the

General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE)

in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands since 1996, has died today at the age of 71, sources from this entity have reported.

Muntaner was born on September 29, 1950 in

Cornellà de Llobregat

(Barcelona) and was the author of numerous songs and music from films and television series.

He studied music theory, piano and guitar since childhood and studied Psychology at the

University of Barcelona

.

For 18 years, from 1971 to 1989, his main activity was music creation, while he gave concerts and recorded albums as a composer of music for theater, film and television.

Muntaner is considered a fundamental author in the history of the song in Catalonia with a very personal and modern style, of great success among the young public of Catalonia in the mid-70s.

A total of

nine recorded discs

, thirty songs for theater, four short films, four feature films and sixteen television programs and series endorse his role as a composer and performer.

He made music the texts of several Catalan poets and was the first to dedicate an album entirely to

In 1990 he was appointed director of

the Ressons center

of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

In 1992 he joined as artistic director of the Generalitat's Dance and Music Space and as director of the Live Music Market of Vic (Barcelona), positions he held until the beginning of 1996, when he was appointed director of SGAE in Catalonia.

From that moment on he held different positions such as director of the entity in the Mediterranean Zone (Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Valencia and Murcia) and, finally, the one he currently held as director of the SGAE in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
