The desire of the town hall of Lancieux (Côtes-d'Armor) to set up a video surveillance system in the town is far from unanimous among the inhabitants.

An association bringing together some of them, called “Lancieux Citizen”, has launched a petition to oppose the project, reports

Le Petit Bleu des Côtes-d'Armor

.

This is accessible on the organization's website.

The municipal team had already mentioned earlier this year the installation of a network of cameras in this town near Dinan.

The idea was already displeasing to residents, who had launched a first petition having collected 150 signatures against video surveillance.

Members of “Lancieux Citoyenne” thought the project had been abandoned and were surprised to find that it was not.

Efficiency questioned

The association explained that it fears the cost of the device as well as the “intrusion into public space” that it constitutes.

"The experiences, numerous and over a long period, show that these video protection techniques are of little or no use in terms of business resolution, deterrence and reduction of delinquency", also affirms "Lancieux Citizen".
