Success has never tarnished its cachet.

At the foot of the Aravis range, La Clusaz has taken advantage of its privileged position to become one of the most dynamic village resorts in Haute-Savoie.

Several times visited by the Tour de France, it has hosted more than 20 ski World Cup rounds.

But the Alpine village has also managed to remain typically mountainous, with its picturesque farms, its old mazots and its Sainte-Foy church with its bulbous bell tower.

Unmissable stage on the road connecting Annecy to Thônes, in the direction of Chamonix, the Aravis pass was already praised, at the end of the 19th century, for the splendor of its panorama.

The ever increasing number of tourists on this vast promontory, perched at 1,486 meters, has been a boon for La Clusaz.

Around the pass, its mountain pastures have attracted skiers since the 1930s.

In the decades that followed, mountain equipment installed by a few visionary locals confirmed the trend.

Then from the 1970s, the municipality in turn embarked on the adventure of winter sports by organizing service to the massifs and skillfully integrating chair lifts, cable cars and parking lots into the landscape.

The culture of skiing

Today, thanks to artificial snow, the ski season stretches from the beginning of December to the end of April on this area on a human scale.

Valid at the neighboring resort of Manigod, the pass gives access to 49 ski lifts and 211 km of slopes, to share the playground of local athletes.

The small traditional society of La Clusaz has indeed given birth to many gifted people.

Each generation has its own champions.

In 1960, Guy Périllat was the first Cluse to stand out on the international scene by winning the Olympic title in the combined on his 20th birthday.

The following year, the sports daily

L'Équipe

designated him "Champion of French champions".

Brooding at the village sports club, Raphaëlle Monod and Edgar Grospiron in turn put the resort in the spotlight, by collecting medals in mogul skiing.

The beginning of the 2000s saw the world coronation of Régine Cavagnoud in Super G and Vincent Vittoz in cross-country skiing, while the verticalities of the Aravis revealed gliding enthusiasts, such as freerider Seb Michaud and freestyle skier Candide Thovex, five once winner of the X Games, the most important extreme sports competition.

The taste of good things

Along with a quality hotel offer, but quickly saturated, large chalets and renovated farms offer alternative accommodation solutions in La Clusaz.

The OVO Network collection thus brings together 34 addresses with very different styles in the town.

New to this high-end network, the Riparian chalet offers its guests a feeling of isolation, on the edge of a stream, but only 200 meters from the entertainment.

At the corner of the hearth, a large table invites you to share the fondue washed down with a white wine from Savoy.

This is because we know how to have fun in the land of farmer reblochon!

At the Telemark Café, you don't have to take your skis off to enjoy a glass of Génépi facing the Aravis mountain range.

This festive restaurant ensures the atmosphere on the slope of the Étale, thanks to the offbeat musical programming of Radio Meuh.

Distributed from the heart of the village, this pure local product is one of the most popular independent webradios in France.

With the reblochon festival, the Radio Meuh Circus Festival has become one of the highlights of the year in La Clusaz.

Particularly awaited, its next edition will be held from March 30 to April 3, 2022.

Housing

Founded in 2010 in Manigod by the British Tim Andrews, the OVO Network leases some 230 exceptional properties, in the heart of the most beautiful Alpine resorts. In these handpicked properties, a personalized welcome promises a dream vacation. Each chalet can be booked with the services of a home chef. The “Cool for Kids” label also provides for a specific layout and playful equipment for the goods for the safety and enjoyment of the youngest.

Recently built in La Clusaz, Chalet Riparian has just joined this prestigious network.

Over 180 m², it can accommodate up to 12 people for an exceptional stay.

From this address, the 211 km of Aravis slopes are accessible on skis!

In addition to the essentials for raclette and fondue, the property is equipped with heated ski cabinets, a sauna and an outdoor jacuzzi with a view of the bottom of the slopes.

Once installed, guests can forget their car.

Ski school, restaurants, bars, shops, cinema and bus stop are just a few steps away.

Coffee break

There are many reasons to stop at Lo Garajo.

“Le Garage”, in Savoyard dialect, is a concept café in a former mechanical workshop on the road leading down to Manigod.

Everything can be bought here, even the cup in which you can enjoy your favorite drink behind the huge bay window.

Creators of this friendly and unique space, Angèle and Benjamin were inspired by their many travels to collect vintage decorative objects, produced in an ethical way.

We also find, between the tables, a lot of local crafts, such as tableware signed Laurence André.

Open every day of the year, Lo Garajo finally offers naturopathic and ceramic workshops.
