Among the junior fictions selected for the Pépites du Salon du livre jeunesse de Montreuil, Vanessa Paunovic, contributor to the

Sarah Carré's

Penguin (love speech)

, published on February 18, 2021 by Éditions Théâtrales.

Her favorite quote:

"AMAZONE. - Sorry, I didn't mean" hello ".

ABELARD.

- And why don't you want to say "hello" to me?

AMAZON.

- Because I don't know you.

And then, saying "hello" is no use.

ABELARD.

- And say "I love you", what is it for? "

Why this book?

  • Because it is a play on words, a game of love, a kind of marivaudage

with two visions, that of Amazon light, playful, pragmatic and that of Abélard, more romantic and almost obsolete.

  • Because the fluid, rich, rhythmic theatrical format in discussion mode

is interesting and suitable for children.

My 8 year old daughter was sitting next to me, she was reading at the same time and I could hear her laugh, giggle with her little hand in front of her mouth as she read Amazon's sparkling words and Abelard's poetic seriousness.

  • Because it is a text that deconstructs prejudices and stereotypes

    with delicacy and humor.

At the beginning of a quote from Roland Barthes on the power of words, the scope of words in the relationship to the Other, here in the text there is a question of language that rubs against the love code.

A text that highlights the sensitive adventure of childish loves where freedom to act and to speak reigns supreme.

  • Because this

    Penguin

made me think of happiness in love

, of the way in which couples in their intimacy invent little names, I remember two people who loved each other and tenderly called each other "Apple" and "Belle. Apple ".

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

“Amazon is bored and wants to play love.

But Abélard refuses: he already has a lover.

For him, love is not a joke, it is a serious and complicated affair;

for her, it's a party, a merry-go-round that turns heads.

Intrepid and mischievous, Amazon insists.

"

Characters.

Love speech between Amazon and Abelard

Places.

Undefined, we can talk about love everywhere!

The time.

 Contemporary but timeless.

The author.

“Sarah Carré's texts readily question the way in which we make society.

She writes about the world of today for, but also with, adolescents and children of today, hoping to (re) awaken in them a critical sense, far from being too certain… ”
