Faced with the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic, the executive is expected to announce new restrictions next week, while a health defense council will be held on Monday.

And one question is at the heart of the discussions: the surge in contamination among children, which the executive wants to try to curb.

Emmanuel Macron and the government will hold a new health defense council on Monday to adopt new measures to counter the fifth wave of Covid-19 in France.

According to information from Europe 1, no generalized confinement or curfew is on the table for the time being due to a major difference compared to last year: vaccination.

Indeed, the Institut Pasteur demonstrates that strengthening barrier actions is sufficient to protect the hospital system.

The government should therefore first and foremost call for responsibility, according to Benjamin Davido, infectious disease specialist at Garches hospital.

"It would probably be necessary to increase and strongly encourage teleworking. And if we modify the gauges, that we make an effort on what we called the sanitary bubble, that is to say avoid being at more six and up to ten when you are vaccinated, I think these are measures that are understandable, "he said.

Also at the heart of the discussions tomorrow, the outbreak of contaminations in children, with a priority issue, that of vaccination for all children from 5 to 11 years old.

The campaign could begin as early as January, but on the other hand, one should not expect a priori announcements on the closing of schools before the Christmas holidays.

There is no consensus on the measure, as explained by Florence Comte, spokesperson for the school union.

"If that could solve everything, why not. But last week, in my school, parents who did not know what to do with their children because they had to work entrusted them to friends. And they became positive for Covid within the confines of the family, so it's complicated, ”she raises.

The situation in schools closely monitored

Even if there is no closure for the moment, the government is obviously monitoring the situation like milk on fire and the strategy announced on Monday can change very quickly.

Invited on Europe 1 Sunday, Jean-Rémi Girard, president of the national union of colleges, high schools, schools and higher, also assured that the number of closed classes is down compared to last week, but that this does not reflect however a less active circulation of the virus, on the contrary.

"We changed the health protocol at primary school so we no longer close a class in the first case," he recalled.

A relaxation of sanitary measures which leaves the professional perplexed.

"The fifth wave is getting stronger and we have more restrictive measures in the general population, but we have finally relaxed the health protocol in primary schools," he is surprised.

"The teachers don't understand because they tell us that there are more and more cases and from their point of view the protocol is less secure. A closed class is complicated for parents to manage. We know it very well. Nevertheless, was it time in the middle of the fifth wave?
