China News Service, Guangzhou, December 3 (Cai Minjie, Hao Li, Jinting) "In addition to academics, the older generation is thinking about doing more for patients." On the 3rd, at the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, recalled his father Zhong Shifan and said, “From my father, I learned how to deal with things, how to deal with medical treatment, and how to deal with research work.”

At the event, the commemorative bronze statues of Li Ting'an, the first dean of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, and Zhong Shifan, the second dean, were unveiled. Zhong Nanshan cited his father's deeds as an example to encourage everyone to learn from the spirit of the older generation of doctors.

"There is a particularly important one, that is, the speech should be based on facts, and every sentence must be based on." Zhong Nanshan said that in addition to academics, the older generation wanted to do more for the patients.

The spirit of his father and many of the older generations who have been teachers and elders affects his pursuit of medical career.

Seventy-five years ago, Dr. Li Ting'an, a pioneer in public health in my country, became the dean of Guangzhou Central Hospital (the predecessor of provincial medicine). Two years later, Zhong Nanshan's father Zhong Shifan took over.

"My father did his best when he was the dean." Zhong Nanshan recalled his relationship with the Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital.

On the eve of the national liberation in 1949, the Minister of Health of the Kuomintang Central Committee came to Guangzhou and ordered Zhong Shifan, the president of the Guangzhou Central Hospital at the time, to carry the huge amount of funds from the hospital, and the family evacuated to Taiwan overnight.

However, Zhong Shifan refused the evacuation order, and his family stayed in Guangzhou.

"My father firmly disagrees. He said that my'place' is here." Zhong Nanshan said.

That year, Zhong Shifan rejected this "order" and the family stayed in Guangzhou.

On July 15, 1950, Zhong Shifan counted the hospital supplies one by one and handed them over to the People's Liberation Army.

In the 410-page "Inventory of the Transfer of Property of the Central Hospital in 1950", a book and a penny are clearly written.

Zhong Nanshan recalled that after his father retired, he wrote a paediatric book of more than 400,000 words after his father retired. It explained in detail how to diagnose pediatric diseases from the diagnosis of symptoms. This was very useful at the time when the diagnostic technology was limited.

"He writes the differential diagnosis of pediatrics in the library of Zhongshan First Hospital every day, on how to identify pediatric diseases from symptoms and signs. He has severe diplopia, but he still insists on writing. If you can't write it, just use it. One thing covers one eye and writes with the other eye."

After the first edition of the medical book was published, Zhong Shifan received 1,800 yuan for the manuscript.

He took out 1,000 yuan to buy his own book and gave it to the students, and the remaining 800 yuan was given to the doctor who helped him copy the book.

After the doctor learns it well, the benefit is the patient.

"Today, the bronze statues of the two deans Li Ting'an and Zhong Shifan were completed and unveiled, and the Li Ting'an Award, Zhong Shifan Award, and Zhong Shifan Youth Innovation Award were also established. I am very touched. This is the greatest affirmation and respect for the two seniors and their families." Zhong Nanshan encouraged everyone to learn from the spirit of the older generation of doctors, live up to the prosperous age, and make achievements.
