A strange incident in Assiut University

Assiut University, in Egypt, witnessed a strange incident of its kind after a student attacked a university professor with a "bladed weapon" inside the lecture hall.


The Faculty of Arts, Assiut University, referred a third-year student in the Department of Philosophy to a psychiatric examination after she attempted to assault a faculty member with a bladed weapon while he was giving a lecture.

Dr. Magdy Abdel-Gawad Alwan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Assiut University, said that preliminary investigations indicated that there was no precedent for direct interaction between the university professor and the student.

Pointing out that the results of legal investigations and medical examinations are followed up, and appropriate decisions are taken in light of those results.

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts indicated that a detailed note of the incident was sent to Dr. Shehata Gharib, Vice President of Assiut University for Education and Student Affairs, to take the necessary legal measures.

According to "Egypt Times", a faculty member at the Faculty of Arts, Assiut University, while giving a lecture to the students of the third year in the Department of Philosophy, was surprised by an attempt by one of the female students to attack him with a white weapon "scalpel", which prompted him to attack her and pushed her to fall to the ground in an attempt to defend himself.


A number of the pioneers of the social networking site "Facebook" circulated a post about the incident of an assault by a female student at the Faculty of Arts on a faculty member while he was giving a lecture to the third year in the Department of Philosophy.
