La Palma volcano monitoring: landslides in the crater and a pyroclastic cone

Eruptive activity in Cumbre Vieja continues to be concentrated mainly

on the northeast flank of

the La Palma volcano

, where a cone of pyroclasts

with strombolian and effusive activity

has formed

that emits lava flows that do not occupy new territory, the scientific spokesperson for the Emergency Plan for Volcanic Risk of the Canary Islands (Pevolca), María José Blanco.

Last night there were small landslides inside the crater of this cone that have contributed blocks later transported by the streams, Blanco continued, who has indicated that

in the emission sources of the main cone the activity this Wednesday

has been scarce and intermittent, with a predominance of the fumaroles.

The accumulation of pyroclasts has generated a new cone in the

La Palma volcano

It has been stopped for a month but could move again, always depending on the push that comes from the emission center.

Monitoring of the La Palma volcano: Increase in seismicity, especially at intermediate depths

The experts of the Emergency Plan have certified in their appearance this afternoon the increase in seismicity associated with

the La Palma volcano

.

Miguel Ángel Morcuende, technical director of Pevolca, has confirmed the "systematic increase in the number of earthquakes" that "above all is noticeable in intermediate seismicity."

After citing the most important movement of the last day, which reached a magnitude 4.89 and was felt with an intensity IV, María José Blanco, director in the Canary Islands of the National Geographic Institute has warned that

"it is possible that earthquakes felt with intensity V /SAW".

To all this, Morcuende added that the tremor is situated this Wednesday at "average values, with some intensification pulse."

Regarding the deformation, there is stability without a defined tendency in the stations closest to the eruptive center and a slight tendency to deflation in the farthest ones.

The emission of sulfur dioxide associated with the volcanic plume continues at high values, between 1,000 and 29,999 tons per day, although these are figures that reflect a downward trend since last September 23, when they exceeded 50,000 tons.

That tongue of lava is finding in its path a lot of material that it has to swallow, which makes it gain in viscosity, despite the fact that in the rear area it is seen running liquid and at high speed.
