Production of the children's version of Pfizer / BioNTech's Covid-19 vaccine will ramp up and doses will be available in the European Union on December 13, Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.

The President of the European Commission was speaking at a press conference in Brussels devoted to the evolution of the pandemic and the appearance of the Omicron variant.

Von der Leyen in favor of "discussion" on compulsory vaccination

Ursula von der Leyen specified that she had this information from the German-American manufacturer which supplies the most widely used vaccine in the 27 Member States of the Union. "I spoke to Pfizer / BioNTech about childhood vaccines and got some good news yesterday (Tuesday)," the German official said. "They are able to ramp up (production). In other words, children's vaccines will be available from December 13," she added.

The President of the European Commission also said she was in favor of the EU having a "discussion" on compulsory vaccination, in response to a question during a press conference devoted to the evolution of the pandemic and when the Omicron variant appears.

According to her, it will take "about 100 days" for the scientific community to adapt the vaccine response to this new variant, she also indicated.
