If the second-hand market has been a general trend for several years, second-hand products are also increasingly present under the tree.

The proof is with a study by Kantar for Ebay, which reveals that 53% of French people could offer a second-hand gift at Christmas, a figure that even rises to 64% among young people aged 16-24, report our colleagues from BFMTV.

“It's unheard of with us,” said Anne Quemin, brand and communications director for Leboncoin.

If the explosion of the second-hand market is partly linked to environmental and economic concerns, the fear of shortages has also played a role of accelerator for these end-of-year celebrations.

At large brands too

On the site, the ads placed in the "games and toys" category increased by 42% year on year.

During the month of November, the number of visits in this category was 15 million, double compared to the same period in 2020.

The second-hand phenomenon is accentuated by the desire of the large traditional distributors to take part in this second-hand market.

“All the intention markers show that it will be particularly strong this year at Christmas.

We have observed a strong responsiveness from our customers for a few weeks: an operation on bikes, for example, has been very well attended, ”said Audrey Metzinger, sales director for product and second-hand testing at Decathlon.

Other big brands like Leclerc offer refurbished products to their customers.
