A visit that comes after more than a week of violence in Guadeloupe and Martinique.
The government launched the sensitive debate on more autonomy for Guadeloupe, promptly sparking controversy.

The protest started with the opposition to compulsory vaccination against Covid-19, then extended to political and social demands, in particular against the high cost of living, in these French islands with a high unemployment rate, in particular among youth.
