JR West and others are developing slopes that fill the steps and gaps between the platform and the vehicle in order to improve the convenience of passengers who use wheelchairs and strollers.

On the 29th, a prototype was released at Sakurajima Station on the JR Yumesaki Line in Konohana-ku, Osaka.

When this slope detects that the train has arrived at the platform, a sensor measures the distance to the vehicle and automatically fills the steps and gaps between the platform and the vehicle, and passengers get on and off the train door. It is a mechanism that is stored in the home when is closed.

According to JR West, it is the first railway company in Japan to install such a fully automatic slope, so after verifying whether it will operate normally until February next year and the convenience of users, a few years later. We are aiming to introduce.

"Based on this result, we would like to consider the next development and increase the number of stations that are as convenient as possible for users," said Kazu Komori, chief of the JR West Innovation Headquarters.
