Not a minute passes without touching technology, the mobile does not leave our hands, the computer and all other portable devices, the television, and then the necessities such as electrical appliances, refrigerator, washing machine, coffee machine...etc.

But how would the world be without energy to operate all that technology, this question has always occupied me, especially in light of the vital reliance on technology in everything, from air traffic, trains, and ships, to hospitals and vital facilities.

Yesterday a strong storm hit the northeastern part of Scotland in the United Kingdom, and despite previous warnings and the weather service knowledge of the storm, but life almost stopped for 24 hours.

The storm started on Friday afternoon and continued into Saturday evening, during which the electricity was cut off, and consequently the internet service was cut off, as the “Wi-Fi” in the homes depends on the electric current, and the heating system also stopped despite the presence of gas, but the system is linked to the presence of the electric current, And the cold began to creep into the houses, and hardly all the available blankets were able to give a slight ray of warmth in a subzero temperature, and of course after a few hours the lights of the mobile phones went out, our neighbor rushed to bring a generator, where his wife gave birth days ago, there is no room for risk, and the trains and buses were cancelled. All, and therefore I could not travel to speak at a conference I had been waiting for last year, which was to be the first conference to be held in person after a long absence.

No doubt we have all had a similar experience, no matter which country we live in, but in the past life was much simpler, and blackouts were not so painful.

Some simple reflections during this situation; First it was a great opportunity to have the whole family sitting in the living room wrapped in blankets by candlelight and without mobiles, TV or Netflix. For my youngest daughter, it was the first experience in her life of this kind, and the topic was exciting and frightening at the same time for her, but I remembered those who live this life permanently without walls that embrace them or the embrace of a family that sympathizes with them and reassures them, and others whose countries have been cruel to them live this experience in the dark And the cold is between life and death to reach the desired safety, as I remembered the blessings in which we revel in forgetting to thank the Almighty God for the countless blessings, which we deal with as if they are completely guaranteed. I also remembered many obsessions about the future, and what if there wasn't enough sustainable energy to power the technology that has taken over all of our lives.

Will the world return to primitiveness again and we live in huts and return to nature, but after our planet turns into a barren land, as depicted in science fiction films?

What is the fate of our children and future generations?

What did we do to them?

And what is our role now in order to leave for them a world in which it is possible to live, a safe world in which people do not eat each other?

Many questions and confusing, and I do not know if they have an answer, and if there is room to change tracks and directions, or if the train has set off and there is no way to stop it.

Will the world return to primitiveness again and we live in huts and return to nature, but after our planet turns into a barren land, as depicted in science fiction films?
