In preparation for future epidemics of infectious diseases such as the mutant virus of the new corona, the government has decided to establish a new subsidy system to support the production and development of vaccines in the country.

Under the new subsidy system, we will support companies that usually manufacture biopharmacy and introduce equipment that can switch to vaccine production when the infection spreads.

Having two functions for factories and production equipment is called "dual use" and subsidizes 90% of the cost of capital investment.

We will also support the establishment of bases for making materials such as culture tanks and filters necessary for vaccine production, and subsidize three-quarters of capital investment for small and medium-sized enterprises and two-thirds for large enterprises. ..

In addition, the government will subsidize the remaining two-thirds, provided that venture capital invests one-third, to fill the funding shortages of venture companies developing vaccines.

To provide this kind of support, the government has allocated more than 270 billion yen to this year's supplementary budget.

Given that the vaccine for the new coronavirus is dependent on imports, the government wants to promote the development and production of the vaccine in Japan by strengthening support.
