The smell of success.

Within a week, Orelsan achieved “platinum disc” certification thanks to

Civilization

, his fourth solo album.

Launched by a powerful single, his new opus has sold 138,929 copies, including streaming figures, according to the National Union of Phonographic Publishing.

This is quite simply the best start of the year, ahead of the Enfoirés record, which won over 118,227 people in March.

The rapper from Caen achieves a better score than his previous album,

La fête est finie

, which started with 96,974 copies sold in October 2017. Above all, he enjoys the luxury of exceeding the figures of Adele, superstar whose release of the disc was eagerly awaited in the world, but obviously not that much in France.

Success helped by brilliant marketing

In order to reach such a level of popularity, Orelsan has relied on three levers. The first: the release of the documentary

Show Never That To Anyone

, directed by Clément Cotentin, on Prime Video. In six episodes, the rapper's brother offers a look behind the scenes of his rise, without evading failures and controversies, only thanks to archival images. It's hard to be more authentic, all while arousing the curiosity of a new audience.

Orelsan's second good idea is the release of several limited editions of

Civilization

, fifteen in total, one for each track on the album.

In twenty-four hours, 30,000 copies had sold like hot cakes on the artist's website.

Finally, the rapper played Willy Wonka last week by revealing that he had hidden golden tickets, giving access to all his concerts for free for life, in five of his albums.

A treasure hunt which does not denigrate the quality of the record but which revives the hype around physical sales.
