An Egyptian MP proposes to imprison the husband and the authorized person... in the event of marriage without informing the first wife!

Representative Hala Abu Al-Saad, a member of the Egyptian House of Representatives, submitted a new draft law that would allow the husband and the authorized person to be imprisoned if the first wife was not informed of the marriage.

She pointed out that some husbands married without the knowledge of the first wife during the recent period.

Abu Al-Saad confirmed, during a telephone interview with one of the TV channels, that she had seen the laws related to this case, the most prominent of which was Law 129, which was previously amended twice, adding that the amendment of the law in 2005 required the husband to acknowledge in the marriage document his marital status and to indicate the names of the wives in his custody and their place of residence, but It did not provide for the husband's punishment if he did not inform the first wife.

She pointed out that some husbands circumvented the law with the help of some authorized officials by placing any address for the first wife or omitting her name.

She stressed the necessity of informing the husband of his first wife before going to the authorized person, adding that if the husband was not informed, the authorized person must notify the first wife of all modern means of communication.

She pointed out that a punishment is imposed on the husband and the authorized person in the law if the first wife is not notified, explaining that the husband is punished with imprisonment for a period of no less than one year and not more than 3 years, while the authorized person is imprisoned for one year and a fine of 20,000 pounds.
