[Explanation] On November 13, 4 members of the Kunming Natural Resources Survey Center of China Geological Survey lost contact after entering the Ailao Mountain hinterland from Zhangpen Village, Zhedong Town, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province.

A few days after the search and rescue, on the morning of November 22, all the four missing persons were found. Unfortunately, they were all killed.

At present, the cause of the accident is under investigation.

[Explanation] Four geological survey personnel lost contact and died, allowing the Ailao Mountain in central Yunnan Province to gain more visibility.

What kind of mountain is this?

Why do people with professional capabilities also face loss of contact or even accidents?

On the 23rd, the reporter interviewed Wang Yu, a senior geological survey expert in Yunnan, to try to solve these puzzles.

[Explanation] Wang Yu speculated that the cause of the death of the 4 staff may be due to loss of temperature and hunger.

[Concurrent] Wang Yu, a senior geological survey expert in Yunnan

It’s affirmative to get lost, and then it’s affirmative to get cold and lose temperature, and there is not enough food, such a little thing (food), it took so long from the 13th to the night of the 21st when they found them.

You just don't move (it can't be maintained under normal circumstances), and you may also be starved and shocked.

[Explanation] According to public information, Ailao Mountain is the eastern boundary mountain of the ancient Ailao country. It is located in central Yunnan, China. It is an extension of Yunling to the south. It is the boundary between the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the Hengduan Mountains and the watershed between Yuanjiang and Amojiang Rivers. .

Ailao Mountain is widely distributed, involving Chuxiong City, Shuangbai County and Nanhua County in Chuxiong Prefecture, Jingdong County and Zhenyuan County in Pu'er City, Xinping County in Yuxi City and the southern part of Honghe Prefecture, extending from northwest to southeast. Nearly a thousand kilometers.

[Explanation] Wang Yu introduced that Ailao Mountain has high slopes and steep terrain, with strong terrain undulations, making it difficult to travel.

The climate is complex, prone to sudden changes in weather, and large temperature differences between morning and evening.

In addition, the heavy fog, no obvious roads, and no communication signals in the virgin forest of Ailao Mountain have brought difficulties to field operations.

In extremely cold conditions, heavy rain and thick fog can even make people hallucinate.

[Concurrent] Wang Yu, a senior geological survey expert in Yunnan

People are frozen to a certain degree, and when they are particularly tired and tired at night, coupled with the cold, people are prone to hallucinations.

Like when we walked in the middle of the night and still hadn't settled down, when we were still walking in the woods, the flashlight that led the way in front of the trees flashed (illuminated), you feel like a village (in front).

Actually, it wasn't in front of me, it was still the woods.

[Explanation] Some media reported that the exploration team carried RTK equipment. In fact, the RTK is only a surveying and mapping instrument, and it needs to pass through the base station to send out signals.

According to the rescuers, the signal in mountainous areas is very poor. Even if the satellite phone is carried, the signal is intermittent and difficult to use.

[Concurrent] Wang Yu, a senior geological survey expert in Yunnan

RTK must first have base station signals and satellite signals.

However, the terrain in these mountains has relatively large undulations, and with the virgin forest (shading), these signals are almost absent.

There is almost no mobile phone signal, as we install geological disaster monitoring equipment.

We are engaged in debris flow monitoring and landslide monitoring (equipment). You only need to enter the ditch for three to five kilometers and the signal will be lost.

[Explanation] It is understood that the four geological survey personnel who lost contact this time are between 25 and 32 years old and all have military service experience.

According to common sense, their chance of losing contact should be much lower than that of ordinary people.

Wang Yu said frankly that the accident is a very small probability event for professional geological team members, and the probability of occurrence is far less than that of amateurs on outdoor adventures and various field trips.
