The Fort-de-France prosecutor's office opened an investigation Tuesday after police and firefighters were the target of gunfire Monday evening around 10 p.m., in the popular district of Sainte-Thérèse in Fort- of France.

If these attacks did not cause any injuries, several bullet holes were observed on the vehicles of the security forces, according to police sources.

"A procedure for attempted murder on persons holding public authority has been opened and the investigations are entrusted to the judicial police", specifies the prosecution.

"The events of the night do not fall to the intersyndicale, because the intersyndicale has ceased all its movements and everyone went home at 7:00 p.m. last night", indicates Bertrand Cambusy, secretary general of the CSTM, originally of the social movement which has shaken Martinique for two days.

Roadblocks on the main axes

This violence occurred on the sidelines of the call for a general strike that began Monday in Martinique, to denounce, as in Guadeloupe, the vaccine obligation and the suspensions of caregivers, but also the cost of living, and prices. fuels.

Behind this mobilization, 17 unions who signed a notice on November 15, from all economic sectors of the island.

Since Monday morning, the road network has been severely disrupted from the south and north of the island, with roadblocks blocking the main roads, especially around the major sectors of activity of Lamentin, in the center of the island.

The public transport networks were completely at a standstill on Tuesday, but the nursing staff and the police were still able to cross some roadblocks.

52% of primary schools closed

These blockages also forced the rectorate to close more than half of the schools.

“Schools are strongly impacted by the social movement of municipal agents.

The 2nd degree schools are subject to road blockages ”, indicates in a press release the rectorate of Martinique.

By midday, 52% of primary schools and 61% of secondary establishments were closed.

In Guadeloupe, gendarmes also came under live ammunition, reported Tuesday morning the Overseas Ministers Sébastien Lecornu and the Interior Gerald Darmanin.

The restoration of public order in Guadeloupe is the "prerequisite for any discussion", warned the latter.
