Each Grammy Awards ceremony has its share of controversy.

This year, it is the presence of Marilyn Manson that scandalizes part of the public.

The rocker took part in Kanye West's latest record,

Donda

, and is named in the Album of the Year category.

The song

Jail

of the rapper on which he sings is also in the shortlist for the best rap song of the year.

Problem: Marilyn Manson is accused by several women of sexual and moral violence.

Four of them have lodged a complaint and the cases are ongoing.

The

Personal Jesus performer

isn't the only one accused of bad behavior to be celebrated by the Recording Academy: Louis CK is nominated in the Best Comedy Album category for

Sincerely Louis CK

.

He was notably accused of having masturbated in front of women without being invited.

“These stories are true,” he admitted in 2017.

The man vs the artist

The puzzle with which many ceremonies have already been confronted therefore arises again: should we separate the man from the artist? For the Recording Academy, the answer is yes. “We are not going to impose restrictions on who can and cannot submit their work. We are not going to look at people's liabilities and their criminal records. We only take into account what is in our rules, ”Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Grammy Awards host company, told The Wrap.

According to the ceremony regulations, to be eligible, the date of marketing of a work and its timely submission to the organization which will decide, after a vote, whether or not to name it, are taken into account.

“What we control are our stages, our shows, our events, our red carpets.

We care about whoever asks us to participate, to be in the audience, and we make our decision at that point.

But we're not going to start preventing people from submitting their work, ”adds the CEO.

Free will is therefore left to the voters to choose the artists and works named.

The people authorized to put a ballot in the ballot box are the 1,200 members of the Recording Academy, that is to say artists, sound engineers, authors, composers or even music producers.
