A survey carried out by the Observatory of Violence against Women of Seine-Saint-Denis sheds light on cases of prostitution among underage girls.

The study published Tuesday and which is based on the examination of 101 files of victims of prostitution supported by Social Assistance to Children (ASE) of Seine-Saint-Denis, shows that the paths of minor victims , overwhelmingly girls (99 out of 101), are marked by violence (99%) suffered before entering prostitution.

Seven out of ten girls have experienced sexual violence before prostitution.

Eight out of ten cases were rape or attempted rape.

These girls also experience significant health problems: nine out of ten underage girls are in poor health (sexually transmitted infections, post-traumatic stress disorders such as eating disorders or severe anxiety attacks).

Six in ten underage girls have been hospitalized and one in four girls have attempted suicide at least once, mainly at the start of prostitution.

The impact of the school

According to the survey, these victims of prostitution fail at school and suffer violence within their establishment (96%).

Six out of ten girls are or have been out of school before or at the time of entering into prostitution and four out of ten minors have been subjected to school bullying.

One in five girls has seen videos or photos of her naked or having sex in the middle of her classmates.

Entry into prostitution is at 11 years old and the average age for prostitution is 15 years old.

At least four out of ten underage girls are unaware that they are prostituting themselves.

The pimp is often the "boyfriend"

The profile of pimps is predominantly male and young between 14 and 25 years old and clients are exclusively men (14 to 60 years old). For one in four victims of procuring, it is the one she perceived as her boyfriend who prostituted her. Finally, according to the survey, the prostitution of minors is hardly penalized. Only 3% of pimps have been convicted.

To curb this growing phenomenon, a national plan to combat underage prostitution was launched on November 15 by the government.

Training of professionals in contact with children, pressure on apartment rental platforms, cyber-investigators ... This interministerial plan (Childhood, Interior, Justice, National Education, Digital, City, Tourism and Gender Equality) has 14 million euros, will be deployed over nine months in 2021 and 2022.
