It has been confirmed that pumice stones have been washed ashore on Miyakojima Island in Okinawa Prefecture, which is about 300 km away from the main island of Okinawa where a large amount of pumice stones have been washed ashore.

In Okinawa Prefecture, a large amount of pumice stones have been washed ashore around the coast of the main island of Okinawa since the middle of last month, affecting the fishing industry, but on the 20th, it was about 300 km southwest of the main island of Okinawa. Pumice stones were also confirmed on Miyakojima.

Of these, pumice stones less than 1 cm in size were washed away in strips on the shores of the Bora coast, which is adjacent to Higashi-Hennazaki on the east side of the island.

Also, off the coast of Urasoko fishing port on the north coast of the island, pumice stones were drifting in strips for about 70 meters.

Miyakojima City is considering installing an oil fence as a countermeasure to prevent pumice stones from entering the port where daily necessities are brought in.

In addition, it is a policy to urgently take measures to prevent each local fishery cooperative from entering the fishing port.
