The hit song, which turns on Fidel Castro's old slogan Patria o muerte (Motherland or Death), has been used as a rallying cry in protests against the Cuban regime during the summer.

The song addresses societal problems such as food shortages and ideological intolerance.

The artists performing the song are some of Cuba's most profiled, including former Grammy Award-winning Yotuel Romero and Alexander Delgado.

The artist Maykel Osorbo is also part of the music collaboration.

He was jailed earlier this year for criticizing the Cuban regime.

Now he is rewarded with his first Grammy award in his absence.

- For a free Cuba, let's all say Patria y vida, says Yotuel Romero in his speech of thanks.
