“Salem’s Feminine Rib” kicks off the Dubai Youth Theater Festival 2021

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority "Dubai Culture" has brought the performing arts back to the stage with the launch of the 2021 edition of the "Dubai Festival for Youth Theater" at the "Theater for All" theater in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, which will continue until November 25.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of the Arts and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, and the Acting Director of the Performing Arts Department at the Authority, Fatima Al Jallaf, along with Emirati and resident artists, and a large number of media professionals, interested parties and theater lovers.

Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash emphasized the special flavor of the festival this year, as it coincided with the country's celebration of its fiftieth year, and to restore its presence in the theaters again.

He added: With feelings of joy and pride, we open new doors for every creator, artist and intellectual to contribute with their thought and noble message in inspiring the sons and daughters of the nation to follow in the footsteps of our founding fathers and our wise leadership, carrying the torch of giving to achieve more impressive achievements in the next fifty years, and for the name of the UAE to remain high and proud.

Kharbash stressed the importance of this festival in supporting local theatrical talents and supporting the creative economy of the emirate. He said: “Today we have a strong base for establishing an Emirati theater on a world level, and we believe in Dubai Culture that the future of this theater depends on the talents of its creative youth and their innovative thought. Based on our mission and our role in supporting and empowering the creative talents of Emiratis and residents in the emirate, we offer them through this festival an important platform for their refinement, development and growth, so that we can see from them stars who enrich the Emirati theater with their productions, which are considered among the creative industries that enhance the creative economy of the emirate, to be contributors to achieving its vision To be the global capital of the creative economy.

During the opening ceremony, the names of the jury were announced, headed by the playwright Walid Al Jallaf Al Zaabi and the membership of the artist Ali Jamal Muhammad Ahmed Youssef and the artist Ibrahim Salem Al-Bairaq. The members of the committee were chosen by the festival’s organizing committee, due to their long experience in this field.

Fatima Al Jallaf, Acting Director of the Performing Arts Department at Dubai Culture, expressed her pride in launching this version of the festival to restore communication between the audience and artists on stage, stressing that the continuation of the festival over the past years, reaching its twelfth edition this year, reflects its success in Stimulating the energies and creativity of young people who multiply the positive fruits of the festival in every version of it. Al Jallaf reiterated Dubai Culture's commitment to supporting local theatrical talents from the UAE and the region, and enhancing the incubating environment for their creativity, in order to consolidate Dubai's position as a global center for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a forum for talents.


The opening ceremony included the first theatrical performance entitled “Salem’s Feminine Rib” by the Dibba Al-Hisn Association for Culture, Arts and Theater; It was written by the young Emirati artist Abeer Al-Jamsi and directed by the rising actor and director Mohamed Juma Ali.
