The number of new corona infections has risen sharply and exceeded 60,000 for the first time in the corona pandemic.

The health authorities in Germany reported to the Robert Koch Institute within one day the maximum value of 65,371 new corona infections.

Exactly one week ago, more than 50,000 new infections per day were counted for the first time.

The number of new infections registered fluctuates greatly over the course of the week.

The RKI gave the 7-day incidence at 336.9 - also a high.

For comparison: the previous day the value was 319.5, a week ago it was 249.1 and in the previous month it was 74.4.

This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 3:53 a.m.

According to the new information, 264 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 235 deaths.

The RKI has counted 5,195,321 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions - was given by the RKI on Wednesday at 5.15 (Tuesday: 4.86).

With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay.

A nationwide threshold, from when the situation can be viewed critically, is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.

The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,564,200.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 98,538.

Giffey is in favor of nationwide 2G rules

Before the federal-state meeting on Thursday, the Berlin SPD state chairman Franziska Giffey urged the 2-G rule to be extended to the entire federal territory. “We are in a very serious situation across Germany,” said Berlin's designated governing mayor of the newspapers of the Funke media group. If all the offers, campaigns, awareness-raising and appeals for a higher vaccination rate would no longer help, then more binding measures would have to be examined to reduce the number of infections, protect the health system from overload and prevent a new lockdown.

The nationwide, nationwide expansion of the 2-G rule, with exceptions only for those who cannot be vaccinated, is part of it get vaccinated, do not have to accept further serious restrictions.

Medium-sized companies require mandatory vaccination

The Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises (BVMW) advocates the introduction of mandatory vaccinations. "I say very clearly: If there are no lockdowns of any kind in Germany, we honestly will not get around compulsory vaccinations, as they already exist against measles," says BVMW Federal Managing Director Markus Jerger to the newspapers of the Funke media group. He can understand why politicians do not want to use the word “mandatory vaccination”. "But the bottom line is that this is the uncomfortable truth when all other measures don't work."

In the worst case, those who do not want to be vaccinated have to accept cuts in wages.

The head of the employers' association expressed criticism of the planned 3-G rule in the workplace.

“For many areas in which 3-G is now to be introduced, this means a gigantic organizational and control effort.

Honestly, that's not affordable at all.

In addition, with the obligation to test there is an incalculable cost risk. "

"Mandatory rules for all of Germany"

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) also spoke out in favor of uniform national standards in the fight against the pandemic.

“I see the development of the corona numbers in Germany with great concern, especially in southern Germany.

We need stronger protective measures again in winter.

And we need uniform standards as to when the protective measures take effect, ”says Schwesig of the Rheinische Post newspaper.

“We in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have already acted and sharpened our Corona traffic lights.

If a district or an independent city reaches the 'orange' warning level on this traffic light, the 2-G rule applies in many indoor areas, for example in restaurants, sports studios or at cultural events.

I could imagine such a mandatory rule for all of Germany. "
