Researchers at Kyushu University have taken a rare image of a frog that is widely inhabited in Japan, "Wrinkled Frog", singing while submerged in water, and general frogs in Japan sing underwater. It has become a hot topic as it overturns what has been said to never happen.

"Wrinkled frog" is also called "Ibogaeru" and is widely distributed in the country. It is known to inflate and squeal.

It is said that frogs in Japan do not squeal while submerged in water, except for some species that spend most of their lives underwater, but Associate Professor Yuichi Kano of Kyushu University said. In June, when I conducted a biological survey on a river in Yamagata City, I discovered that the "Wrinkled Frog" was singing while completely submerged in the water, and I succeeded in taking a picture of it.

In the video, the "Wrinkled Frog" is screaming in the water without using a "vocal sac", and as a result of detailed analysis, it is said that the intervals between the squeals are shorter and the sound is lower than when screaming on land. That is.

Associate Professor Kano says that it may be difficult for natural enemies to find it by squeaking in the water, and it may not have been noticed because there have been few detailed ecological surveys so far.

Associate Professor Kano said, "I am surprised when I show it to various experts. I find it interesting that there are many things that I do not understand even in familiar creatures, so I would like to further investigate the meaning of crying in the water." I did.
