As a Christmas host on SVT, you may not advertise or appear in campaigns two weeks before and two weeks after Christmas Eve.

This year's host, TV chef Tareq Taylor, agreed in February to advertise Nescafé until the end of 2022. But after an interview with GP, he has announced to the company that he will stop.

- I understand the problem and put this collaboration on the shelf.

Christmas hosting is important to me, and I do not want it to be infected, or to be questioned, he tells the newspaper.

Nescafé is owned by the company Nestlé, which has been questioned by consumer groups and breastfeeding advocates for decades.

Nestlé is boycotted by, among others, Vårdförbundet, which writes on its website:

"The reason for the boycott is that Nestlé does not follow the child food code adopted by the WHO.

Nestlé markets breast milk substitutes in poor countries in a way that helps women refrain from breastfeeding. ”

Save the children: Led to malnutrition

Nestlé's communications manager Mikael Lindgren tells GP that they follow the WHO's recommendations and call the Healthcare Association's boycott unfortunate.

Nestlé has been boycotted by consumer groups since the 1970s when it emerged that the company marketed breast milk substitutes in poor countries as a better alternative to breastfeeding.

Lack of access to clean water led to infants dying as a result of malnutrition, writes Save the Children in a report from 2018.

SVT tells GP that they do not have control over the Christmas hosts' collaborations beyond the rule of not being seen in campaigns in connection with the Christmas hosting.
