Prior to the arrival of drift ice, work was carried out at a fishing port in Okoppe-cho, Hokkaido on the Sea of Okhotsk side to lift a fishing boat that had finished scallop fishing to land.

At the Saruru Fishing Port in Okoppe Town, every year, the boats that have finished fishing during this period are landed so that the drift ice and sea surface ice that come during the winter will not damage the boats.

On the morning of the 15th, work was carried out to lift eight scallop fishing boats to land, and about 50 people including crew members and shipyard workers gathered.

The work is done by moving a fishing boat weighing about 40 tons on a special cloth belt submerged in the sea and then carefully pulling it up using a huge crane.

When the fishing boat went ashore, the crew cleaned the hull and then moved it onto the rails to secure it.

Toshinori Sato, the captain of the fishing boat, said, "I'm glad I was able to finish the work safely. The scallops of this year tasted good and I got a lot of them, so I hope that next year will be even more abundant. I want to. "

Every year at Saruru Fishing Port, the sea surface begins to freeze in mid-January, and drift ice comes in February.
