Two departments in the South-East, the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes, were placed in orange vigilance in the wind, this Monday morning, Météo-France announced in its morning bulletin, warning of the stormy showers that will affect the Coast. Azure.

"The depression currently near Cap Corse is moving between Corsica and the mainland to position itself at midday on the eastern coast of Var", explained the meteorological service in its bulletin published at 6 am Monday morning.

Yellow "waves-submersion" vigilance

"As it approaches the Alpes Maritimes and the Var, the wind picks up and then suddenly strengthens with gusts reaching 100 to 120 km / h on the coast and the most exposed sites of these two departments", which were consequently placed in orange vigilance.

Météo-France evokes a "violent gale of east to northeast temporary but with unusual gusts".

In addition, yellow vigilance has been put in place on the coast because of a risk of “waves-submersion” linked to this gale.

"Strong waves can cause submersion by sea packet crossings on exposed or usually vulnerable parts of the coast," warned Météo-France.

In the course of the afternoon, the wind should weaken to around 70km / h and only affect the Var.
