Creation of an independent national body for recognition and reparation, compensation financed by the sale of real estate: at the end of their plenary assembly in Lourdes, the French bishops announced on Monday November 8 major measures in the fight against sexual violence .
Preceded by the particularly noted penitential gesture of Mgr Éric de Moulins-Beaufort, President of the Bishops of France, and the recognition of the institutional responsibility in the systemic abuses unveiled in the Sauvé report, these measures mark a historic reversal of the episcopate after years of uneasiness, precautions and prudence.
In Lourdes, under the pressure of the faithful and associations of victims, the word of the bishops was released.
