The new wave of coronavirus cases is worrying far beyond Europe.

In Morocco, a major tourist country, the authorities have decided to strengthen border controls to prevent an increase in cases in the kingdom.

Thus, in addition to the compulsory health pass and negative PCR tests, upon arrival in Morocco, a double check will be carried out, by thermal cameras and electronic thermometers, as well as by antigenic tests, details the press release of the Interministerial Monitoring Committee. of the Covid.

These measures concern all people from so-called "list B" countries, namely France, several countries of the European Union as well as the United Kingdom, Algeria and Tunisia, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Any passenger who tests positive on arrival will be returned immediately to their country of origin, at the expense of the air or sea transport company, with the exception of permanent residents in Morocco, the press release concludes.

Last month, Moroccan authorities had already suspended flights to and from Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Russia because of the evolving health situation in these four countries.

Fewer cases and an effective vaccination campaign

The contaminations and deaths curve has been steadily decreasing in this North African country since the beginning of autumn. The government announced this week on Tuesday the lifting of the national curfew in force since the first months of the pandemic in 2020 following “the improvement of the epidemiological situation” in the kingdom. This decision follows "the positive results achieved within the framework of the national vaccination campaign", according to the government.

The country is counting on this vaccination campaign to curb the pandemic: more than 24.35 million people (out of 36 million inhabitants) received the first dose of vaccine and some 22.39 million the second.

But if a large majority of the population participates in the vaccination campaign, the compulsory nature of the pass raises protests in the streets and on social networks.
