The mayor of Laillé issued an order to restrict the practice of hunting in his town.
It is in this town, located south of Rennes, that a motorist lost his life, hit by the shot of a hunter while he was driving on the four lanes.
The anti-hunting collective Forest Sheperd has planned to demonstrate in front of the town hall on Saturday.
With four other mayors of Ille-et-Vilaine, she had called in early November for strong measures to regulate the practice of hunting. In the absence of a rapid response from the authorities, the mayor of Laillé took the lead by signing an order, which was sent this Friday to the services of the prefecture. It is in this town located south of Rennes that a motorist lost his life, shot by a hunter on October 30. While traveling on the four lanes between Nantes and Rennes, the sixty-year-old had received a 9.3 mm caliber bullet in the neck. He died a few days later.
The hunter behind the fatal shot was indicted for "manslaughter during a hunting action by manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence".
A month earlier, another hunting incident had already occurred in the town.
During a wild boar hunt, two cats were killed by a pack of dogs in a residential subdivision.
An anti-hunting demonstration organized on Saturday in front of the town hall
Following these two tragic events, Françoise Louapre therefore decided to act in order to "preserve order and security in her town". The decree it has just taken thus prohibits any hunting operation, in particular shooting, within a perimeter set at 150 meters from homes. It also makes "compulsory the keeping of dogs on a leash" and prohibits "the use of rifles" on municipal territory.
The mayor will hold a press conference on Saturday morning to give more details on this decree which restricts the practice of hunting in his town.
In the afternoon, a demonstration is also planned in front of the town hall at the call of the anti-hunting collective Forest Sheperd.
