A 28-year-old Frenchman set a daring world record for a good cause: Standing on the tip of a hot air balloon, Rémi Ouvrard reached a total height of 4016 meters.

The balloon was controlled by his father, who at an altitude of 3500 meters became nervous because of the rapidly decreasing oxygen concentration - but his son did not want to know about a turnaround.

The weather conditions in Châtellerault in western France, from where Ouvrard started his record attempt on Wednesday, were simply “perfect”, he said afterwards.

In addition, he did not feel the cold in his astronaut suit or on the warm balloon: "I was boiling from the heat".

With the help of a selfie stick, he recorded himself during the first part of his flight and posted the video live in the online media.

The man performed his stunt for the annual donation gala on French television, the so-called Téléthon.

With it he broke his own record from 2019 by lengths - at that time he had reached a height of 1217 meters standing on the balloon.

Ouvrard actually wanted to reach 3637 meters this time - which corresponds to the telephone number of the donation campaign.
