The application for the best international film for the Academy Awards ended on November 1st, local time in the United States.

A total of 93 countries and regions signed up for the Best International Film Awards this year, and the number is the same as last year.

The spy film "Above the Cliff" directed by Zhang Yimou will also represent the mainland of China to compete for the 94th Oscar for Best International Film.

Zhang Yimou's last work that represented the mainland of China to hit the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film Award was "Jinling Thirteen Hairpins", which failed to be nominated for the 2012 Oscars.
