A scenography loaded with dreams presented by the exhibition “Beirut Specialized Store” in the seventh edition of Dubai Design Week, where the store, which contains works and designs of various artworks, designed materials from tables surrounded from the sides and from the bottom by old pillows collected from the homes of people in Beirut. The pillows that were placed in the store bear the accumulated dreams of people since 1950 until today, as if contemporary creations carried on dream pillows to be the most eloquent expression of the meaning of clinging to hope.

The exhibition presents a collection of ceramics, woodwork, mirrors and other creations designed by 50 young designers residing in Lebanon. The curator of this exhibition, Mariana Wehbe, told «Emirates Today»: "We chose this scene for the store because the situation that Lebanon is going through at this period is not normal, and it is indeed a very difficult crisis for the country and people, and for this the scene that we chose to present was not perfectly made, So, the artist Romy Dahl worked on the general scene of the store, relying on the pillows that were taken from homes to express the dreams of the future, and to show the madness of Lebanon, which highlights creativity on the other hand.” She pointed out that the store in which the scene was presented summarizes the difficulties Lebanon is going through, especially as it is a depleted country and has many problems, but nevertheless the dream remains essential in order to complete life.

Wehbe loves ceramic works, and this is why she focused on presenting a wide range of ceramic works, noting that she wanted to show young talents in Lebanon, especially that they work alone to present these works, and for this existing works are all produced in Lebanon.

The store focuses on ceramics, and Soraya Haddad participated in the store through a group of ceramic vases, and talked about her work and said: “The existing works are carved vases, and each vase suggests that it bears a specific shape that brings a dream to looking at it, and I translate through my tests. There are many things that I do in the lab before I present the work in its final form.” She pointed out that she bakes ceramics on a high fire and chooses between wood fire, gas and electricity, and this is a difference in the final form of the work or even the details that affect the shape of the work. Haddad pointed to the many experiments she carries out in order to choose the colors, and they also modify a lot with the components from which the artworks are made, in addition to the heat, noting that ceramics technically come in the middle between the pottery and porcelain industries.

Ceramics is one of the ancient crafts, but it has evolved today, and has become a very contemporary art form, and Haddad pointed out that in the past, ceramics was considered a craft aimed at producing pots and dishes used in daily life, but today it is linked to the artwork, and is no less important than the method of presenting A painting or a sculpture, and for this reason, ceramics became highly prized in the West, and this situation began to move to the East.
