The President of the International Federation of Publishers expressed her happiness with what the Emirates Publishers Association has achieved over the past few years, and considered that the arrival of the association's members to more than 200 members is a great indicator of the strength and professionalism of Emirati publishers, as it started in 2009 with only five publishers, considering that this The growth in the number of members is an indication of the extent to which the local publisher is aware of the need for cooperation, systematic work, investment of opportunities and broadening of horizons.
During the meeting, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi affirmed the commitment of the International Publishers Association to support steps that contribute to increasing opportunities for developing the book industry and making it easier for publishers to reach new markets, to stimulate the growth of the publishing movement globally.
She pointed out that the radical changes that the publishing industry is going through require a rethinking of business models related to this sector, adding that the Federation's efforts aim to support its members to cross the publishing sector into a new future, by providing them with technical and moral support.
The President of the International Federation of Publishers reviewed the latest initiatives and projects launched by the Federation in response to the needs of publishers around the world, including the “International Charter for Enhancing the Sustainability and Resilience of the Publishing Sector (InSPIRe)”, in addition to the ongoing preparations for the launch of the “Academy of the International Publishers Association” aimed at enhancing the digital and technical skills of publishers. Through a series of training courses in several languages.
Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi explained the importance of integration, dialogue and practical cooperation between publishers and all actors in the publishing sector system, such as printing presses, libraries, writers, distributors, designers and others, to achieve integration that contributes to facing challenges and enhancing the spirit of solidarity among all components of the publishing sector.
During the meeting, she called on the Emirates Publishers Association to participate in the "33rd International Publishers Conference" to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia in November next year.
