Two months after the abolition of all corona restrictions in Denmark, the country is reintroducing measures to contain the pandemic.

A panel of epidemiologists have proposed the reintroduction of the 3G regulation, and the government is following this advice, said Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen on Monday evening.

The reason is the sharp increase in the number of infections.

On the recommendation of the panel, Covid-19 is once again classified as a "threat to society," said Frederiksen.

In the future, proof of a corona vaccination or recovery or a negative test will again be required in many areas of the public.

Denmark only lifted the last corona restrictions on September 10th.

The mask requirement on public transport had already been abolished in mid-August.

After the end of the corona measures, however, the number of new infections rose sharply again.

At the end of last week, the National Health Authority warned of overburdening hospitals.

On Monday, the authorities reported more than 2,000 new infections in the country with around 5.8 million inhabitants for the fifth day in a row.

In Denmark, 85.9 percent of the population over the age of twelve is fully vaccinated.

The reintroduction of the 3-G rule means restrictions “for those who are not vaccinated.

I think it should be like that, ”said Frederiksen.
