Nothing in life is more difficult and worse than the absence of the mind and conscience, and if the mind is absent, the conscience is absent, and the person turns into a mere wandering being, neither alive nor dead, losing all meanings and values and harming himself and those around him. And in one week, heinous crimes were repeated that the devil could not manage, all because of drugs.

There are many reasons that lead to drug addiction as well as alcohol, and the rich and the poor are equal in that, and stopping them requires a pause and a decisive decision, so that a person can live a decent life and save himself and those he loves.

For those who are addicted to narcotic substances or some type of drug and everything that leads to the absence of the mind, here are some practical steps and ideas provided by the American Center for Addiction, drugabuse.com, with an emphasis on consulting a specialist.

The center advises the importance of dealing with the desire to return to use and lists several methods, the most important of which are, first: talk to yourself when you feel the desire, resist talking to yourself using logic and reason, because intense desire will prevent you from seeing the big picture, and limiting thinking to the present moment and your desire to use, State out loud to yourself all the reasons you chose to quit in the first place, as well as all the negative consequences that could occur if you choose to take it now. Always remind yourself and be decisive, with the conviction that you can quit.

Secondly, practicing a hobby: Practicing a hobby that you love can be an excellent way to distract while wanting to use drugs, as emptiness and boredom may help strengthen cravings, so the mind tries to find a way to fill the void, and thus the hobby provides something else to engage in other than drug abuse, Some of my hobbies include sports, cooking, arts and crafts, hiking, fishing, or writing.

Third: Go with the wave to overcome it without drowning you, instead of trying to stop the desire all at once, as if you are trying not to hear it, deceive it and buy some time, and this is a vigilant method based on the principle of accepting the desire instead of resisting it and the desire to eliminate it.

When you feel the urge to use stop and admit it, accept it completely as it is and do not try to get rid of it, sit and close your eyes and notice the thoughts that revolve in your mind and feelings.

For example, you might say to yourself, "I feel uncomfortable and I'm thinking about taking drugs," or "My hands are sweaty and my heart is beating fast."

Describe as many thoughts and feelings as possible, until you gradually lose the desire to deal with the insistence.

Fourth: Self-care and self-care. For example, eating healthy and exercising regularly helps promote physical and emotional health, which will not only make you less likely to use drugs, but will also make you more resilient and better able to deal with the urge to use.

Above all, we must seek help from God and trust in Him and ask Him for help in overcoming this setback and not returning to it, for God Almighty is capable of everything, and Glory be to Him when His servant thinks of Him.

• Above all, we must seek help from God, trust in Him, and ask Him for help in overcoming this setback and not returning to it.
