The controversial professor Didier Raoult, accused of having violated the code of medical ethics by promoting hydroxychloroquine against Covid-19, faces his peers during a disciplinary hearing which opened on Friday morning in Bordeaux. A potential conviction can range from a simple warning to deregistration.

He was the hope of many French people.

Professor Didier Raoult is accused by the disciplinary chamber of the Order of Physicians of violating the code of ethics for promoting hydroxychloroquine at the very beginning of the fight against Covid-19.

The hearing takes place at the Administrative Court of Appeal of Bordeaux, in front of which gathered many demonstrators who came to support and applaud the 69-year-old infectious disease specialist.

Arriving early in the morning, dressed in a green sweater, the professor remained silent, contenting himself with a nod to his supporters.

The "trial of success" for the accused

Didier Raoult responded at length to his peers. He explained, he defended himself especially in the face of the accusations recalled by the lawyers of the Bar Council, one of them considering that in many respects, "Professor Raoult is freed from the common lot of the law and that it is not subject ", at least he considers it," to the common law of the doctors ". Professor Raoult, in his inimitable style, then declared: "We are going to say again that I lack modesty. We are simply in the process of making the trial of success."

The Council of the Order must render a decision within fifteen days to eight weeks after this hearing.

The disciplinary chamber, chaired by an administrative magistrate, can decide on sanctions against the Marseille infectious disease specialist ranging from a simple warning to radiation, including temporary suspension.

The Bordeaux court must also examine a third complaint lodged this time by the Marseille professor himself, against the vice-president of the Ordre des médecins des Bouches-du-Rhône, Dr. Guillaume Gorincour, for "non-confraternity".

Didier Raoult criticizes this doctor in charge of ethics within the body, about fifty denigrating tweets, posted throughout the year 2020.
