New Zealand couple finds the world's largest potato

A New Zealand couple has stumbled upon what may be the world's largest potato ever recorded in their garden.

And local media reported that Colin and Donna Craig Brown, from the Waikato region in North Island in New Zealand, were working to rehabilitate their garden when Colin discovered the 7.9 kg fruit.

The couple have not recently planted potatoes in their garden, nor are they aware of how long the fruit, now called a doge, took in the ground to grow to that weight.

"It's one of the few happy moments in life, you know?" Colin told Radio New Zealand. Mother Nature has just given us this glory.”

It is noteworthy that the current world record for the weight of a potato is 4.9 kilograms for a British fruit. Colin is awaiting confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records that the new record holder will be the "dog" fruit.
