Lana Wood waited until Kirk Douglas died to evoke this increasingly insistent rumor.

She claims, in her autobiography, that the interpreter of

Spartacus

sexually assaulted her sister, Natalie Wood, when she was a teenager.

The facts would have taken place in the summer of 1955, when the actress was filming

La Prisonnière du Désert

and she had finished

La Fury de Vivre

.

Taken by her own mother to a "date" in a hotel in Los Angeles, the young woman would have left deeply upset.

“I remember that Natalie was particularly beautiful when Mum and I dropped her off that evening at the entrance to the Chateau Marmont (…) It seemed to me that a long time had passed before Natalie came back upstairs. in the car and woke me up by slamming the door.

She looked awful.

She was very disheveled and very upset, and she and mom began to whisper urgently to each other.

I couldn't really hear them or understand what they were saying.

Something serious had apparently happened to my sister, but anything, I was too young to know about it… ”, writes Lana Wood in her book

Little Sister

, excerpts from which were relayed by the BBC.

Secret

For years, Lana (who was 8 at the time) and Natalie Wood didn't bring up this episode.

But when the star finally spoke to her little sister about it, there was no doubt what had happened to her.

“He hurt me, Lana.

It was like an out-of-body experience.

I was terrified, I was confused, ”recalls Lana Wood in her book, quoting her sister.

She adds that Natalie Wood and their mother have agreed to keep it a secret, believing that revealing it could ruin the career of the one who would land her first Oscar nomination for

The Fury of Living

(she will be nominated two more times, without ever taking down the statuette).

Lana Wood also explains that she promised her sister that she would never talk about the event.

But when Kirk Douglas passed away in 2020, at the age of 103, rumors of this sexual assault resurfaced, and it seemed important to him to tell the truth.

Natalie Wood died in 1981 in still unclear circumstances.

If the authorities concluded with an accidental drowning at the time, the facts were reclassified in 2012 as related to a “drowning and other unspecified factors” after reopening of the file.

Asked by The Associated Press, Michael Douglas, Kirk's son, spoke soberly via one of his representatives: "May they both rest in peace".
