A replica of the Mona Lisa is up for auction in Paris

A replica of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, dating back more than 400 years, will be auctioned in Paris on Tuesday, after another replica, one of the world's most famous, sold at a record price in months.

The original painting that King Francois I of France bought from the artist in 1518 is in the Louvre Museum in Paris and is not for sale.

But the fake painting offered for sale on Tuesday dates back to around 1600 and is so similar to the original that it is likely that the artist who painted it saw the original painting closely, according to Artcurial auction house.

The price of this painting is expected to range between 150,000 and 200,000 euros (173,000 to 230,000 dollars).

In June, a European collector bought another Mona Lisa replica from the 17th century for 2.9 million euros ($3.4 million), a record for a Mona Lisa replica, at auction at Christie's in Paris.
