Ocean Rebellion activists gathered on Tuesday outside Scotland's only crude oil refinery, located in Grangemouth near Glasgow.

They demonstrated dramatically against the fossil fuel industry on the sidelines of COP26,

Some protesters were disguised with large black capes to simulate an oil spill.

Others, cans on their heads, have "vomited" fake oil on banknotes, reports

"We want to hear that their actions will be appropriate to the emergency situation in which we find ourselves," explained one of the activists in front of the refinery managed by Ineos.

“We no longer want to hear fine words.

A factory that could run on hydrogen

"We need to act immediately with a global change", added the activist questioned by the British news agency.

“Transport, employment networks, the whole structure of our society must change.

In September, the owner of the Scottish refinery said the plant would be converted to run on hydrogen.

A project that would cost more than a billion pounds and allow carbon neutrality by 2045, recalls the

This transformation would help the UK achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. The country is still struggling to reduce its industry-related CO2 emissions.
